Hello all and welcome to my new and improved Beginner's Gravity Well tutorial. I will only be covering the basics in this tutorial.

Before I get into the tutorial itself I'd like to point out that it helps tremendously if you become very acquainted with the keyboard shortcuts. This cuts down on time significantly as there will be A LOT of trial and error involved. It's good to know these shortcuts for regular track making also.

The most used Gravity Well hot keys are as follows:

Q = Pencil tool
W = Line Tool
1 = When pencil tool or line tool is selected chooses non acceleration (blue) line
3 = When pencil tool or line tool is selected chooses scenery (green) line
E = Eraser tool
S = Hold to disable snapping
Shift + Left Mouse Button = To reverse direction of lines (not necessary but occasionally useful).
Y = Play Button
M = Slow motion (after you press play)
Z = Zoom in (after you press play)
X = Zoom out (after you press play)
Shift and Y Simultaneously = to maintain zoom to determine sled nose position.
U = Stop Button

Okay, Now for the gravity well basics:

For beginning gravity wells it's usually easier to have the line perpendicular to the nose of the sled.

Like this:
"example1"

An easy place to try a gravity well when then sled is jumping up in an arc try and grab the tip when possible right as the sled starts to descend from the top of the arc. Sometimes it's helpful in edit mode to draw a scenery (green) line as a visual frame of reference.

Example: (explanation is written below the video)

I started all set up for the Gravity well so as to not waste your time. I put in a scenery (green) line to help maintain a visual frame of reference.

I tried to place the non acceleration (blue) line a little in front of where the sled starts to drop in the arc at an angle perpendicular to the sled.

As you can see it took six tries before i got it right. Note: I held down "S" when drawing the lines near the other lines to disable snapping.

The next Gravity Well I tried to hit I got in three tries but I didn't like the movement on that one so I erased and began anew.

After that it's just rinse and repeat. It also helps to zoom in more (Z) and use slow motion (m) to help determine where line placement should be.

That's pretty much it for the beginner Gravity Well tutorial.

In the future I will try to explain:

• How to get line rider to do arcs/loops
• Gravity Well canons (I haven't debuted this track yet)

Extra things to keep in mind:

• The speed of the sled affects where the placement of the non acceleration (blue) line should be.
• It's more difficult to catch a gravity well if the sledder is spinning/rotating/flipping quickly.
• The angle of the line comes into play.
• As does length of the lines.
• Play with all of the above if you're still having problems.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks!

It is awesome for beginners!

I consider of making a tutorial with flings, cuz it is important for fast all blue tracks.

Dude, it could be better if u make a vid with all from beggining, bcoz is rlly hard if u dont know the correct angle (or the easy one) to star the gravity welll

but it helped alot thx anyway
