If I wanted to make a new online version of Line Rider...
3. I would get together a small group of beta testers who are really good at Line Rider, and actually have some quality beta testing, with bug reports and the like. Don't get 100 beta testers of people who have barely played the game - get a few, maybe 10-30, people who really know their way in and out of the game. (I believe I made a small list of quirkers that would have been good beta testing subjects, but my post was... disregarded?)
*cough cough* me???
jk
i completly agree cuz the customer is always right
WE LUV U RABID ~_~
and the fact that theres a new foot string makes it waaaaaaay to easy to do wells
,on only one thing "new version" Many topics that you talked about would be a good way to make it go but i would rather go with some of these.
1.Do polls, and interview people online but instead of interviewing line riders best i would interview notso good people to help them out so they have a better chance at getting better and widening the amount of people playing it.
2.Physics should be almost identical to beta 2 but there should better tools some what like the ones on silverlight.
3.I would do something like inxfile did and open up the testing for everybody since the more people the faster they will find the bugs.
4.Agree but i would try to go with a microsoft type thing instead of java since java sometimes lags really easily.
5.I would just make to links when on the site were they let you play saying beta 2,silverlight 2, or beta 3 to give them a good choice.
1. I would find out what people wanted. Do public polls, talk to people (online) who are considered Line Rider "celebrities", find out what they want to have changed. Don't rush into it thinking that you know people will like a certain change, but try to find out exactly what people want before you do it. Here's a list of things I believe would benefit the game for everyone (and not just be fun little gimmicks):
2. I would try to make it as much like the beta 2 version as possible excepting the changes you know people want - make sure you make all the glitches that were in the beta 2 version work in the new version - with some things you could make it easier to do, like the "play in edit mode" glitch could just have an option, superzoom could just be a button to engage farther zooming, and ghost flags could just be a specific hotkey. But things like gravity wells and flings and how they work should stay the same (and don't make gravity wells easier, please, that takes all the skill out of it)
I hope they throw those ideas in there soon, rabid, because right now I'm predicting that ZNF may have/may be having a heart-attack while playing the Silverlight version. XD
I'm sure if InXiles main objective was to make a better, more enjoyable linerider for the public, most of which use stanalone, they would have done so. However, InXile's main objective is to elminate standalone play, and make people register and use this site, and look at all the lovely adds. If this new linerider was made with our intreset in mind I'm sure that is exactly what they would have done, but this version is an attempt to get people comming to their site, and that is the reason for all anti-productive changes.
Perhaps they should consider a chat bot option
Use Jabber for one of the chatbots (for google, Livejournal, and facebook as facebook chat will get support as previously announced and every other jabber server)
msn, yahoo, aol should all be included for chatbots as well but jabber should be an major option
Flash or java should be the major choice as I understand that while the beta could change to improve, First impressions are everything and you are not impressing a lot of people (I dont have a serious problem about the firefox crash but its a hinderance having to move the crash window out of the way or choosing to stop playing and no, Internet explorer only is not a feature or necessarily a good thing)
the chatbots should be used to upload maps
They should consider a second option such as copy paste code (like free rider 1 and 2) or an image recognition (like what the wxsand falling sand game software does for saving pics) for the levels
storing as images would be a lot easier then storing as sols to send around
But the biggest issue is you didn't ask people what they had in mind first
and tell them what to expect

First, I want to say that this is entirely from my perspective, and I don't mean to come across as obnoxious or condescending. I may be wrong about many things I'm assuming, but but I do have a few things to say. Also understand that I can't play it (more on that later) but I'm taking this from what I've heard and seen about it.
If I wanted to make a new version of online Line Rider...
- fast forward/rewind/pause - a faster and slower speed bar would be ideal
- less lag on large linecounts
- an easy way to save a track to a file and load a track from a file, without all the sticky "finding your .sols" business
- XY snapping
(there's probably more I'm overlooking, but you get the idea - these are very basic things that would make life less aggravating when making a track, but things that don't take away from the essence of the game and things I think almost everyone would like)
(I believe I made a small list of quirkers that would have been good beta testing subjects, but my post was... disregarded?)
4. I would make it playable for everyone, that means using something that works on nearly everyone's computer, like flash. (maybe java if flash won't work?) As I said before, I can't play it because I'm a mac user (I can only download silverlight 1), and it's very frustrating. I've also heard that many other people can't play it because it doesn't work on their browser, or their operating system, and whatnot. Please, make this available to everyone.
5. After I published it, I wouldn't feature it immediately - I would provide a link (possible below the beta 2 play window) to go to the "in progress" version of the new beta 3, and wait until I was sure people liked it better before I moved it to the main site.
It's very possible that some of these things are there but I don't know about them, and it's very possible that I'm assuming some things I shouldn't, and I really don't want this to be taken the wrong way. But I hope you get where I'm coming from, and try to do some of these things.
I really want to see a new, better version of Line Rider, but I think you need to slow down and make it good before you really dive in like this. Don't try to add stuff left and right - if it's not something people have been asking for, most people are not going to like it.
